Prof. Antony Matthew Ottaplakkal, a PhD in English Language Teaching/Grammar had his BA from Karnatak University, MA from Allahabad University, M Litt. from Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages, Hyderabad, and PhD from Kerala University. He taught English grammar in Kaliabor College, Assam, St Xavier’s College (Thumba), Kerala, and in the Faculty of Education, Hodeidah University, Yemen. He has more than forty years of experience in English grammar teaching at undergraduate, post-graduate and teacher trainee levels in India and abroad. He worked also as a resource person for various English teaching programmes for schools and colleges in India. With his rich experience, he has been very active in designing textbooks and producing other teaching materials. He has been associated with English textbooks production under SCERT, Government of Kerala, and has been guiding research work in English Language Teaching.
Prof. Matthew’s work in the areas of lexicography and English grammar has been outstanding in that it has brought out insights that escaped the pundits in the field for long. The present book (EGTL) is a reflection of his disillusionment with both traditional and modern grammars.
